Why Mortgage Brokers Who Use AI Will Outperform Those Who Don’t
Author: Craig Skelton – Mortgage Business Owner, Mentor & Coach
The world of mortgage broking is changing fast. And let me be clear right from the start: if you’re still ignoring AI, still hoping it’s a passing trend, or waiting for someone else to figure it out first, you’re going to get left behind.
The truth is, mortgage brokers who embrace AI are already working smarter, not harder. They’re creating better client experiences, staying consistently visible online, and spending far less time bogged down in admin. AI isn’t replacing brokers. But brokers who use AI will absolutely replace those who don’t.
AI Won’t Replace Brokers—But It Will Transform How We Work
Let’s tackle the fear head-on. AI will not replace mortgage brokers. It lacks empathy, trust, intuition, and emotional intelligence—all the core elements that make you valuable to your clients.
What it can do is take care of the repeatable tasks:
- Writing emails and content
- Summarising meetings
- Drafting client explanations
- Automating low-value admin
That means more time for you to focus on:
- Deeper client conversations
- Tailored protection advice
- Understanding long- and short-term goals
- Building trust and rapport
So instead of racing to complete your fact find while mentally juggling 10 other cases, imagine being fully present with your client. That’s what AI gives you: space to be more human.
People Buy From People
That will never change. But if you’re buried under emails, manually drafting every document, and struggling to show up on social media consistently, then how are people going to find you, connect with you, and trust you?
AI helps you scale that personal touch. Use it to:
- Record your Zoom or Teams meetings
- Generate fact find summaries
- Automate your follow-up emails
- Post regular, relevant social content
AI isn’t about taking over—it’s about making sure you show up more often, with less stress, and more clarity.
It’s Not Too Late to Start
You might be thinking: “Craig, this all sounds great, but I’m not technical. I don’t have the time. I don’t know where to begin.”
That’s exactly why I created this podcast series. You don’t have to be a tech expert. You just need to take one small step.
Start here:
- Pick one stage of your client journey.
- Choose a prompt from a previous episode.
- Tweak it. Use it. Save it.
That single action alone puts you ahead of most brokers who are still ignoring AI altogether.
Who Will Win in the Next 12 Months?
It won’t be the brokers working 60-hour weeks, doing everything manually. It won’t be the ones hoping things go back to the way they were.
It will be the brokers who:
- Use tools to reduce low-value tasks
- Automate where it makes sense
- Show up consistently online
- Deliver outstanding, high-touch client experiences
They’re not relying on AI to be the business. They’re using it to support the business they’re building.
This Week’s Action Plan
Take 10 minutes this week and reflect:
- Am I resisting AI out of fear, habit, or time?
- Where could AI help me work smarter?
Then:
- Choose one AI prompt
- Test it
- See how it impacts your workflow
Ask yourself: What would my day look like if 20% of my admin or content was handled for me?
Spoiler: It’s not just possible—it’s already happening for many brokers today.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to be an early adopter to benefit from AI. You just need to start. And once you do, you’ll likely ask yourself what every broker I’ve coached has asked:
“Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
This isn’t about technology replacing you. It’s about empowering you to be the broker you really want to be—present, proactive, and powerful.
So, are you going to keep waiting? Or are you going to start today?
