Self‑Employed Broker Pathways

Choose the path that fits your journey to independence

➤ Not every broker’s journey is the same.  Whether you’re just starting out, already advising clients under someone else’s brand, or ready to take your experience to the next level, there’s a route that fits your ambitions.

➤ This page lays out three clear pathways so you can see which one aligns with your current situation.  Each path reflects my commitment to trust, honesty and integrity, meeting you where you are and helping you grow at your own pace.

Pathway 1: Launch as a New Mortgage Broker

This path is for people who have already achieved their CeMAP qualification but lack real‑world experience.  If you’re freshly qualified and ready to make the jump into self‑employment, we help you build the foundations you need:

You’ve passed CeMAP, the industry benchmark for mortgage advisers .  We help you translate that knowledge into practical skills so you can advise clients responsibly from day one.

Understand the UK financial services market, regulations and ethical advice practices.  We ensure you know how to operate compliantly and sustainably.

Plan your transition to self‑employment with clarity around branding, marketing, client acquisition and operations.  You’ll start your business with the right structure and ongoing support.

we guide you through the process so you can operate with minimal supervision.

This path is for brokers who already have mortgage experience, however, we do have inexperienced brokers who have taken this path from day one.  You might be employed in a firm or working as a registered individual and want more control over your brand and client relationships.  Here’s how we help:

Create a distinctive identity and marketing plan that reflects your values and attracts your ideal clients.  We’ll work on positioning, messaging and visual elements that set you apart.

Develop workflows for client management, compliance and reporting.

Regular check‑ins and honest feedback keep you focused on your goals.  You’ll build confidence by taking ownership of decisions while benefiting from ongoing support.

Pathway 2: Build Your Own Brand

Pathway 3: Become an Appointed Representative (AR)

For seasoned brokers who want to expand without handling all regulatory obligations themselves, becoming an Appointed Representative can be a smart choice.  An AR operates under our network (the principal) that is directly authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority .  This setup offers you the structure and compliance support of the network while allowing you to focus on advising clients .  Our role is to make your transition smooth:

We’ll discuss your business goals and help you decide if AR status is right for you.  Each option has unique benefits and responsibilities ; we’ll ensure you choose with confidence.

We’ll guide you through the culture and support services that meet your needs.  Then we’ll support you as you complete the onboarding and compliance processes.

Even after you’ve joined us, we remain by your side to help you grow your business, refine your strategies and stay accountable.

Self‑Employed Broker Pathways page FAQs

Do I need any qualifications before I start?

CeMAP is required and every path leads to CAS.

CAS allows an adviser to work independently after demonstrating competence through several suitable mortgage and or protection case checks.

This offers network support and compliance oversight.

As brokers gain experience their needs may change, and we help you transition accordingly.
